Farah Hisham
Petaling Jaya · Accountant
"I came to the half-day workshop not entirely sure what I was hoping to get out of it. I left with a clear list of three financial goals ranked by what actually matters to me — not what I assumed I should care about. The worksheet is still pinned above my desk."

"The three-month programme suited me well. Having fortnightly sessions gave me time to actually try things between meetings rather than just absorb information all at once. The peer group was small and genuinely helpful — people at a similar point in life, not strangers with incompatible situations."

"I did the Foundations Course last year. Eleven weeks sounds like a commitment, but the sessions were well-paced and the clinic format in the later weeks was particularly useful. I appreciated that nothing was ever sold to me — it was genuinely just education."

"The workshop was more structured than I expected — in a good way. I thought it might be a talk with some handouts, but it was genuinely interactive. The priority checklist exercise took me by surprise; I thought I knew what my goals were until I actually had to write them down and rank them."

"As someone who runs their own business, separating personal and business goals has always been murky for me. The Foundations Course gave me frameworks I actually use now. The reference folder at the end is something I refer back to every few months when reviewing things."

"I was a bit wary going in — I'd sat through a few 'financial planning' talks before that turned into product pitches by the end. This was genuinely different. Nothing was sold. The facilitator was knowledgeable and patient with questions, even ones that weren't strictly within the session topic."

Participant journeys in more detail
Three accounts of what brought participants to Wangsana and what shifted for them during or after the programmes.
From scattered intentions to a written plan
Workshop · Half-dayChallenge
Married in her early thirties with two incomes, Suraya had vague intentions about saving and investing but no concrete plan. She described her financial life as "managed but not directed." She enrolled in the workshop during a period of career transition.
Experience
The four-hour workshop guided her through distinguishing short, medium, and long-horizon goals, then ranking them by what genuinely mattered to her household — not by what she felt she should prioritise. The priority checklist helped her realise two of her "goals" were really the same thing phrased differently.
Outcome
Left with a worksheet listing four clear goals and their associated first steps. Three months later she joined the Planning Programme to maintain structure and accountability. "The workshop gave me the map. The programme helped me actually start walking it."
Rebuilding a plan after a significant life change
Planning Programme · 3 monthsChallenge
Following a divorce, Hafizuddin found himself reassessing financial arrangements he'd assumed would remain static. Existing plans no longer applied. He needed structured thinking time, not just information, and joined the Planning Programme six months after the change.
Experience
The fortnightly rhythm allowed him to act on each session's takeaways before the next meeting. The small peer group — including another participant navigating a similar transition — provided a sense of shared context without the programme becoming therapeutic. Review check-ins kept him honest about progress.
Outcome
Completed the programme with a rewritten five-year goals outline and a clearer sense of what near-term decisions mattered most. Described the experience as "steady and useful" rather than dramatic. Said the main value was having a consistent structure to return to each fortnight.
Building a complete reference from the ground up
Foundations Course · 11 weeksChallenge
Lim Kah Yee, in her late forties, described herself as "financially functional but conceptually vague." She had savings, a general sense of goals, but no coherent framework underpinning any of her decisions. She wanted depth, not just a starting point.
Experience
The eleven-week course gave her exactly the systematic grounding she was looking for. She found the clinic sessions in weeks ten and eleven particularly valuable for working through questions specific to her situation. The workbooks were thorough without being overwhelming.
Outcome
Completed the course and described the reference folder as "the most practically useful thing I've come away from any educational programme with." Reviewed it in full about six months later and found most of it still relevant. Said she'd recommend the course to anyone who genuinely wants to understand their own planning logic.
